The Fifth Annual Gulf Studies Forum will run from the 1-2 December 2018, devoted to the themes of Identity and Social Transformations in the Arab Gulf States. A second, parallel track of sessions devoted to studying the foreign relations of the Gulf States. For the 2018 session, this parallel track will concentrate on "Gulf-United States Relations".
The background paper attached indicates the interest in the identity problems of Gulf societies, their cultural and political dimensions, and their relationship to the dynamic development of the Gulf societies. But literature on the topic is scarce. Regarding the second topic, the paper points out that the increasing disparity between the Gulf States and the United States, the decline in the importance of the Gulf and the growing inter-Gulf problems. These issues oblige the parties to pay more attention to a new types of relationship in place of the traditional oil for security approach.
In preperation for the forum, the academic committee invites university professors and researchers from the Gulf, the Arab world and the world to prepare and submit their research on one of the research topics related to these issues. Summaries of abstract papers should be received (within 400 words) by the end of May 2018. The abstract should clarify the research question, its importance, its contribution to the topic, and the methodology and sources.
Research approved by the Forum's academic committee should be submitted as a full paper (5000-6000 words) should be received by 15 September 2018 in order to satisfy the Center's peer-review and editing procedures. The academic committee shall inform the researcher of its decision and may request adjustments to its proposals in order to meet research quality standards.
