On February 22, 2011, the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies began a series of intellectual discussions related to the Egyptian revolution. The first of these meetings was focused on drawing up a research agenda concerned with the popular revolution in Egypt and its impact on the region as a whole. The session was attended by a group of Egyptian intellectuals and activists, a number of academic specialists, as well as ACRPS researchers.
The objective of the meeting was to understand the factors which led some of the Arab peoples to revolt against the ruling regimes in their countries, by focusing on the Egyptian revolution of January 25, 2011 and led to the overthrow of Mubarak on 11 February, 2011, a mere 18 days after the beginning of the revolution.
The session was chaired by the General Director of the ACRPS, Dr. Azmi Bishara, and participants included: Dr. Sabry Hafez, Dr. Abbas al-Tonsi, Dr. Muhammad al-Shanqeeti, Dr. al-Sadiq al-Faqeeh, Dr. Basma Abd al-Ghaffar, Anas Hasan and Rana al-Tunsi.
