The Doha-based Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies will convene the second Annual Conference on the Social Sciences and Humanities from March 30 to March 31. The 2013 Conference will address two specific themes: "The Dialectic of Social Integration and the Building of Nation and State in the Arab Homeland" and the "Definition of Justice in the Arab Homeland today".

ACRPS General Director Dr. Azmi Bishara will deliver the opening remarks at this year's event. His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Bin Ali Al Thani, President of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, will also address the opening ceremony followed by a lecture by Chancellor Tareq El-Bishry, former judge and leading Egyptian scholar. Dr. Kamal Abdullatif, chairman of the Committee for this year's Arab Prize for Social Sciences and Humanities, will present a speech on behalf of the Committee.

The ACRPS conference will bring together a select group of relevant academics and scholars as well as a number of College Deans in the Arts and Social Sciences from a number of Arab universities.

Thirty academic papers, reviewed and refereed by an academic committee nominated by ACRPS, will be discussed during the proceedings. As with last year's conference, the sessions will be divided in two themes. The first sessions will be dedicated to social integration and will include discussions addressing its theoretical framework in addition to a number of regional case studies addressing social integration. The sessions dedicated to the second theme will focus on discussions addressing the notion of justice along with a focus on the historical background behind how this concept was developed, in addition to a number of studies of present-day expressions of justice.

The ACRPS looks forward to the wide participation of specialists and guests to this conference, and to vibrant and productive discussions born out of the academic papers presented.
