A prominent Palestinian historian and political militant. He was born and raised in Jerusalem before completing his high school education in Istanbul in 1910, where he remained to graduate from Istanbul University in 1913, obtaining a bachelor's degree in administration, politics and economics. He joined the military college and the Ottoman army. He was captured on the Caucasus front and spent three years in a prisoner of war camp in Siberia but he escaped and returned to Jerusalem. The Mandate authorities arrested him, but he managed to leave, and he moved from Jerusalem to Damascus. He was one of the representatives of Palestine in the general Syrian congress of 1920, and was appointed as mayor in several Palestinian cities. He has many books documenting the history of Palestine and its people.
