Arab writer and activist, born in Tannourine, North Lebanon. He studied law in Istanbul (1909-1914) until fleeing to avoid arrest because of his engagement with the Arab Association of Istanbul. He then worked in the Egyptian press, notably for al-Ahram newspaper, before publishing his own paper, Cairo, which he envisaged as a pan-Arab newspaper. He was in close contact with leading Arab figures in the countries of the Mashreq, and played an important role in preparatory work in the establishment of the Arab League. Among his many books are: The Arab Revolution Against the Turks, Arab Civilization, Omar and Jamilain the Land of Lebanon (a novel).
