A researcher (PhD in Sociology, University of Minnesota, 1971), he has taught at various Libyan and American universities; worked in Libya as the Director of the Arab Development Institute, as a member of the Advisory Committee of the Libyan National Authority for Scientific Research, as well as of the Higher Education Forum of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
