The Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies Unit at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies and the Hassan Bin Mohammed Center for Historical Studies jointly organized a conference titled “The Eastern Coast of the Gulf and Its Inhabitants: Their Lives and Migrations from a History and Social Sciences Perspective” in Doha on 11-13 October 2025. Specialists presented 23 research papers across 10 sessions and one keynote lecture.
The conference examined the eastern coast of the Gulf that has long remained a marginal space in regional and global research and academic agendas, despite its integral role in the region’s political and social formation. It explored how a deeper understanding of the region and its history remains impossible without grasping the networks of migration and exchange, and the intricate relationships between the two shores of the Gulf, which together form a single, continuous maritime unit.
