Under the patronage of His Highness the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies convenes a three-day symposium devoted to a host of domestic and international issues affecting the Gulf Cooperation Council and its member states. The first meeting of the Forum, which is due to become a yearly event, will host 60 speakers in two parallel series of panels (details here), and will be held on December 5-7, 2015. An Opening Ceremony held in the evening of Saturday, December 5, will see guest lectures by the GCC’s first Secretary General, His Excellency Abdullah Bishara and Qatar’s Minister of Education and Higher Education, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Abdul Wahid Al Hammadi.

 

American international relations scholar John Mearsheimer will address the First Annual Gulf Studies Forum.

 

As a special guest, American international relations expert and author John Mearsheimer will deliver a lecture titled “US Policy towards the Region since 9/11: One Disaster after Another”, scheduled for 18:00 hours on Sunday, December 6. Mearsheimer, a former US Air Force officer who has been a member of the faculty at the University of Chicago since 1982, is a widely published author on international relations and, in particular, on security affairs. He is the co-author, with Stephen Walt, of The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy, a New York Times bestseller in 2007 which has been translated into 22 languages.
