The Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies has published the 25th issue (Summer 2018) of its quarterly peer-reviewed journal Omran, dedicated to the social sciences and humanities. This edition tackles "Arab Women's Movements in Men's Cities" and includes the following studies: "Feminisms in Iraq: Between NGOization, Ethnosectarian Violence and the Struggle for a Civil State" by Zahra Ali; "Between Religion, Gender and Colonialism: Women Leaders and Activists in the Islamic Movement within the Green Line" by Areen Hawari; "The Status of Black Moroccan Women: Color and Gender Stigmas" by Yassine Yassni; "The Image of Religious Women in the Discourse of Moroccan Religious and Politico-Religious Actors" by Mourad Jaddi and "Algerian Women's Illegal Migration as an Act of Resistance: A Sociological Study of the Phenomenon of the Harragat" by Sabiha Kime.
Featured in the Translation Section is Thaer Deeb's Arabic rendition of of Judith Butler's Performative Acts and Gender Constitution: An Essay on Phenomenology and Feminist Theory. This edition also includes "Sociology of Education and the Question of Gender: From Social Inequalities to Gender Disparities" by Faouzi Boukhriss, under the Discussions Section.
Various book reviews are also featured in Omran 25 including: Sabah Alnasseri's review of Work: The Last 1,000 Years by Andrea Komlosy; Hatem Alsarairah's review of The Struggle for the State in Jordan: The Social Origins of Alliances in the Middle East by Jamie Allinson; Fatima Alsmadi's review of "A Social Revolution: Politics and the Welfare State in Iran" by Kevan Harris; and Ahmad Iz Addin As'ad's review of Jihad in the West: The Rise of Militant Salafism by Frazer Egerton.
This summer edition of Omran concludes with the proceedings of the "International Conference on Social Movements and Protest in Transitional Contexts" held by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies in Tunisia from 8 to 10 March, 2018.
