On Saturday, 3 October 2026, the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies will launch its fifth conference for Arab Graduate Students in Western Universities, in Doha. The conference will run until 5 October, following its postponement from April 2026 due to the regional conditions.

The conference provides a forum for Arab doctoral students and recent PhD graduates from Western universities to present and develop their research across the social sciences and humanities. Participants have the opportunity to discuss their work with their peers and established academics in their fields, engage with research agendas in the Arab region, and build academic and professional connections within the Arab academic community.

This year’s conference brings together 54 researchers from nearly 50 Western universities, each presenting a paper based on their doctoral projects. The papers are organized around six broad thematic tracks: politics and international relations; economics, public policy, energy, and urban studies; conflict and settler colonial studies; sociology and psychology; migration and refugee studies; and history, philosophy, literature, linguistics, and cultural studies. This conference comprises ten research sessions, as well as a session dedicated to the Encyclopedia Arabica project. More than 44 scholars will serve as discussants.

Since its launch in 2018, the conference has brought together 287 participants from more than 140 universities across Europe, the United States, Latin America, and Australia, including those participating in this year’s fifth edition.
