The Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies will convene a one-day academic symposium open to the public and devoted to studying the political significance and legal status of the occupied city of Jerusalem. The decision to convene the meeting, scheduled for 24 February, was motivated by the decision of US President Donald Trump to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The White House decision, announced on 6 December of last year, also included a commitment to move the US Embassy to Israel, presently located in Tel Aviv, to the occupied city by the end of 2019.

Participants at our meeting will explore the changes wrought on the demographic base and urban landscape of Jerusalem as well as the impact of regional and global politics on the city. The symposium is one of a series of events convened by the ACRPS to explore pressing issues relevant to the Arab region. It will be addressed by a select group of scholars of Palestinian affairs from across the Arab region and beyond. Full details of the event will be available soon.
