On Monday, 6 May 2024, the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies is launching the Syrian Memory platform, a digital archive created to document events in Syria since the outbreak of the revolution in March 2011. The platform is the product of an Arab Center research project conducted by a Syrian research team since 2019. The platform provides important documentary information surrounding the events that Syria went through, and it has been technically designed to provide users with the best means of searching and accessing information. The “Syrian Memory” platform features an advanced search engine technology and includes revolution diaries that have been verified and reviewed by reliable sources. It covers local and international civil, military, and political events from the beginning of the revolution until 2015.

During the work to complete the documentation of the events, more than two million videos were reviewed to verify, classify and audit them, until the platform now includes a huge archive containing 900,000 video clips, in addition to a wide range of documents belonging to civil institutions, military factions and various political bodies. With about 50 thousand documents displayed.

The Syrian Memory team worked to provide data and information on more than 10,000 military, civilian and governmental entities. The platform also provides introductions to more than 6,000 individuals who appeared as active in the events and also includes basic information about periodicals published about the revolution since 2011.

Those working on the project conducted face-to-face video interviews with multiple actors who played an important role in the events of this stage. The platform contains the largest library of Syrian oral history to date, with more than 2,500 hours of recorded testimonies and oral narratives. It also provides documentation of military battles that took place in different regions of Syria, in addition to the chants and songs of the demonstrators during their popular protests, including a complete copy of the famous Kafranbel paintings.

The platform will be available to the public following its launch at the Arab Center in Doha.
