The ACRPS Political Studies Unit will hold a symposium titled “The Army-RSF Conflict and the Future of the Crisis in Sudan” on the evening of 16 May 2023, from 18:30 till 20:30. The event will feature contributions from Abdelwahab El-Affendi, President of the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies and Vice President for Academic Affairs; Hamid Ali, Associate Professor and Dean of the Doha Institute’s School of Economics, Administration, and Public Policy; Ahmed Abushouk, Professor of Modern and Contemporary History at Qatar University; and Hamza Baloul, former Sudanese Minister of Culture and Information.

The symposium will discuss the causes of the outbreak of conflict between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces and its consequences for security. It also broaches the efforts that have been made to stop the fighting in light of worsening humanitarian conditions and growing numbers of displaced civilians, raising questions about the future of the crisis and the ability of various domestic, regional, and international actors to put a stop to it – going beyond ceasefires and allaying human suffering to achieving consensus on a political solution that would end the crisis and clear the way for a democratic transition.

* The symposium will be held in person at the Arab Center – Cultural Building, Auditorium 2 (First Floor)

** The event will also be livestreamed on ACRPS social media accounts
