The Tunis Office of the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies will hold a three-day conference on the role played by the middle class in the contemporary Arab world. “The Middle Classes in the Arab Countries: Present-day Realities, Transformations and Socio-economic Changes” will allow for a comparative study of the middle class in various Arab states. The meetings will be held over July 13, 14 and 15 in the Tunisian capital. Researchers interested in attending the event are encouraged to review the background paper available in its French (here) and Arabic (here) versions.

Guidelines on participation:

The abstract must contain: the main research problematic to be covered; the hypothesis which the author intends to test; the methodology adopted and a bibliography of the sources which the author intends to use.

2)    The above should be submitted alongside a complete participation form (which can be found here) and sent by email to: carep.tn@gmail.com  The final deadline for receipt of abstracts and participation forms is January 25, 2017.

3)    For participants whose proposed papers are accepted in principle, a complete draft will be reviewed and the authors will be told of any alterations which they need to make as early as possible. The final drafts, incorporating any changes proposed by the Academic Committee, are between 6,000 and 8,000 words in length (inclusive of footnotes and a bibliography) and must be submitted in full by June 20, 2017.
