The Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies will host a symposium, entitled, “The Egyptian Constitution and the Transitional Phase Toward Democracy”, on Saturday 24 November at 4:30 p.m. The symposium will be held at the Al Mukhtasar Hall  in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Doha.

ACRPS General Director Dr. Azmi Bishara will be delivering the opening remarks at the Symposium.
The various sessions held on the day will be divided thematically as follows:


Session One:

• “Needed Features in a New Egyptian Constitution”, Dr. Ahmad Kamal Abu al Majd, Professor of Constitutional Law at Cairo University.
• “The New Egyptian Constitution and the Controversy of Egypt’s Transitional Phase”, Dr. Gamal Gibril, Professor of Constitutional Law and Head of the Department of Public Law at Hilwan University, Egypt; Chief of the Systems of Governance Committee within the Constituent Assembly.
•  “Methods of Drafting a Constitution: Applications to the Egyptian Constitution”, Dr. Ramadan Bateekh, Professor of Constitutional Law at the Faculty of Law, Ain Shams University, Egypt, and a member of the Constituent Assembly.


Session Two:

• “The Rise of a Citizenship-based Democratic System: Text and Reality”, Consultant Ali Awadh, former Deputy Chief Justice at the Egyptian Constitutional Court.
• “The Period of Democratic Transition in Egypt”, Dr. Thanaa Abdullah, Professor of International Relations and Social Sciences.
• “Citizenship and Cultural Rights in the Draft of the New Constitution”, Dr. Hanna Greis, Deputy Head of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party.
• “The Constitution and Change: Text and Reality”, Dr. Amro Al Shalqani, Assistant Professor of Law at the American University in Cairo.
