On Tuesday, 4 February 2025, Omran Journal of Social Sciences (published by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies and the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies), in cooperation with the UNESCO Chair on Genocide Prevention Studies in the Islamic World at the University of Baghdad, is launching the conference “Research in a Time of Great Darkness: Genocide, War Crimes, and Political Violence”.

Sessions will run until 6 February, with the participation of 40 researchers from around the world. The conference will explore the comprehensive dynamics of political violence experienced by Arab societies today different thematic approaches and questions, including ethics of research; great power competition; forms of violence; lexicon of erasure; everyday life of political violence; infrastructures of violence; people’s movements; and ethnography of armed resistance and militancy.

The conference will be held at the University of Baghdad, beginning at 9:30 am.
