The Tabayyun journal, published by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies and the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, is holding its fifth annual symposium on 21 and 22 April 2025, titled “Critique and Intellectual Debates in Contemporary Iran, Türkiye, and the Arab World: Culture, Philosophy, Theology and Gender”. The symposium is bringing together a select group of researchers from different universities and research institutions who contribute to the study of intellectual and critical transformations in these three regions, within their philosophical, cultural, and social contexts. It seeks to explore the intellectual dynamics that have characterized the philosophical and critical scenes in Iran, Türkiye, and the Arab region, with a focus on intellectual historiography and the impact of political and social transformations on reshaping fields of knowledge. The symposium sessions address the development of intellectual and critical writing, transformations in philosophical discussions theology, as well identity, modernity, and gender, and how historical contexts have shaped related discourses.

It will discuss the nature of intellectual interactions between these regions, exploring the potential for cultural cross-pollination between Arab, Iranian, and Turkish intellectual experiences and the extent to which they contribute to shaping a broader understanding of contemporary philosophical and critical transformations. The research papers presented will provide new insights into the relationship between cultural criticism and political and social systems, and the impact of intellectual debates on matters of identity, religion, and gender.

Furthermore, the symposium contributes to strengthening Arab-Iranian-Turkish intellectual dialogue and reconsidering current philosophical and critical issues from multiple perspectives, thus opening new horizons for academic research in the region.

The symposium will be held in person at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies in Doha beginning at 10:00 AM and continuing for two days, as outlined in the agenda. The sessions will be broadcast live on the Arab Center’s social media platforms, with simultaneous translation between Arabic and English.
