acrobat Icon ​For more than four decades, Iran has been subject to wide-ranging international sanctions, first by the United States in 1979 after the Islamic Revolution and the hostage crisis in Tehran. Ever since, Washington and its allies have steadily intensified economic and political pressure on Iran, ranging from punitive measures for the latter’s alleged support for terrorism to the broad-based embargo targeting its nuclear programme. Iran has aimed to come to terms with this reality without acceding to it.
