The Arab Center will hold the conference “Transitional Justice and the Democratic Transition in the Arab Countries: Politics, History and Memory” in Tunis from 21-23 November 2019.

The conference aims to identify the political and legal foundations of transitional justice and learn about the lessons presented by cases from outside the Arab world, as well examining different Arab experiences and attempts. The conference will seek to understand if the transitional justice system can assist conflict resolution and address stalled transitions to democracy.

Participants in the conference will be researchers from different Arab countries, belonging to various academic disciplines. The agenda includes nine sessions featuring 24 research papers, as well as three special sessions for Arab and foreign experts, with the aim of listening to their assessment of the Arab experiences as well as the most important lessons learned from the international applications of transitional justice, and their implications for the Arab world.
